Here's your chance to get started on Mobile App development which will be part of the Mosque Tech Challenge 2017.

In this 6-hours workshop we will be building a "Calculator" together.

This deceptively simple project will:
1) Teach you the anatomy of an Android app. XML? Java? Manifest? Layout files? Gradle? AVD? Activity lifecycles?
2) How to create user interfaces.
3) How to manipulate UI elements programmatically.

1) Must already be familiar any OOP language.
2) Must already have Java and Android Studio installed and working - this will save a lot of time.

Download Android Studio here: https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html

This workshop is taught by last year's Mosque Tech Challenge 2016 Winner!

Saiful Shahril is a Senior Systems Analyst with PUB - but that's just the day job. In real life he's a full-stack web developer.

In the front-end he's comfortable in all the usual front-end stuff like HTML/CSS/JS/jQuery/Sass/Bootstrap - but these days it's all React.

In the back-end his tech stack of choice is Laravel - and runs DigitalOcean Linux instances for infrastructure. These days he almost exclusively builds APIs to be consumed by React or Android clients.

He's also an Android developer. Why is probably why you're reading this.

Graduated from NTU Computer Engineering in 2010, has a Specialist Diploma in Mobile Apps Development from Singapore Poly and is currently doing a Masters in Software Engineering at NUS.

You don't need to be taking part in Mosque Tech Challenge to take part in this workshop

If you need assistance to set up android studio, do come earlier around 9am.
